About Me:
Adam James Marine Surveyor and Technical Consultant:
With a lifelong passion for the sea and an extensive career in the marine industry, I have become a highly experienced marine surveyor, naval architect, and technical consultant. My expertise spans yacht and boatbuilding, vessel compliance, and marine safety giving me the background knowledge to help boat owners and sailors really understand their vessels.
My journey began in sail training and then offshore racing, fostering a deep understanding of vessel performance and seamanship. My technical acumen then led me to study Naval Architecture for Small Craft, providing a strong foundation in boat design, construction, and stability.
Over the years I have worked in shipbuilding (part of the team building a 180' wooden sailing ship) I've also managed boatyards, and played a crucial role in shaping marine safety regulations.
I also lecture on marine regulations, health and safety, and vessel compliance and teach marine electrical and electronics installation to the UK marine industry.
Beyond my technical expertise, I've had extensive hands-on experience, from managing yacht refits and new builds to leading operational teams in critical roles - including three years fulltime Coxswain of the UK's most northerly lifeboat, in Shetland.
Working in leadership in these high-pressure environments demonstrates my ability to assess risk, ensure safety, and make informed decisions in challenging maritime conditions.
When not immersed in marine consultancy and surveys, I remain an avid sailor, racing competitively as a navigator and tactician while also enjoying cruising with my wife aboard our Rival 31.
My love for the sea extends to every aspect of his life, whether it's advising clients on vessel safety, training the next generation of mariners, or enjoying coastal adventures with my dogs.
With a unique combination of technical expertise, regulatory insight, and practical experience, I can offer reliable, in-depth marine surveying and consultancy services for yacht owners, commercial operators, and marine businesses alike.
